CREOpoint

Create buzz and develop your relationships

Good news... This forum has been set up to allow productive discussions before, during and after Realcomm 09. You are all welcome to join the conversation, even if you have to join us remotely here.

We'll start with a conversation about past, current, and future role of Web 2.0 in our IT strategies. We'd like to know what's on your mind, what you have tried or implemented. If you all let us know your questions, as well as your organization and personal pain points, we'll combine and address them. If you'd like you can also ask others as you see fit by sharing this link www.creopoint.com/forum/topics/join-the-conversation-before.

The term "Web 2.0" refers to a perceived second generation of Web development and design that aims to facilitate communication, secure information sharing, interoperability, and collaboration on the Internet. There is no doubt that sites such as FaceBook, Twitter, and MySpace have made their way into daily life, but even though sites such as LinkedIn exist for working professionals, has Web 2.0 really made its way into the day-to-day business environment?

My pain points related to web 2.0 technology:

1. Skype usage for business and the inherent security risks related to peer to peer networking.
2. Consistent strategies around recruiting personnel (contractors and employees).
3. Finding tenants to fill our buildings. Our listings for our residential properties on Facebook have yielded a total of zero leases.
Some of the things we're looking into at WS Development:

1. Using sites like Facebook and Twitter as marketing tools for our retail centers.

2. Corporate culture - HR Policy issues in terms of how we respond to or encourage employee private use of social networking. How do we balance wanting employees to be our best advocates vs. how far do we go in terms of monitoring their personal public communications?

3. Are there ways to use Web 2.0 as a leasing and deal making tool?
My pain points related to Web 2.0 include:

1. Finding new senior management changes at target companies;
2. Finding a degree of separation to get access to a senior decision maker;
3. Attracting and Hiring quality experienced hires with the relevant skillsets for our organization;
4. Staying in contact with former clients and customers; and
5. Positioning and Branding myself and RealFoundations as a trusted advisor to help Real Estate Companies run better.
In addition to the topics identified for the paneled discussion, I would also like to discus how to leverage Web 2.0 solutions to enhance the delivery of professional services and interactions with our clients.
Here's a few pain points we heard around the world as we were launching CREOpoint last year:

1. Marketing, tradeshow and travel budgets are being cut, leaving professionals no choice but to network more on the internet.

2. CRE decision makers don’t know what’s around the corner and want to gain access to must have intelligence and best in class networking without wasting their time in non-exclusive platforms with millions of wannabes.

3. Many organizations who don’t want to miss out have tested LinkedIn groups but quickly learn that there is no way to generate revenues and no guarantee of user friendliness, traffic, returning quality members, useful conversations, or industry ‘buzz’.

4. The best and brightest often want to share their wisdom beyond infrequent events but there was no privileged 24/7 safe online platform for them to collaborate on key issues like the current crisis and sustainable development.

5. There was no ‘go to’ online place to find experts in unfamiliar markets, people met at events, best practices, deal flow, regulatory updates, what’s underlying deals, global market data etc.
Richard Kincaid, Former CEO Equity Office Properties during Realcomm opening session: "I don't understand Twitter. Why should I be interrupted during dinner?"
Thanks to JC, Joe, and David for their participation in the Web 2.0 Social Networking seesion at Realcomm 2009 and to all those who attended and contributed. Quite a difference from 2008 when all the talk was theoretical. Most people in the room were doing something and see some friut. The process of preparing for the session made a beleiver out of David. As we discussed, those who would like to continue the dialouge can do so here and on my twitter.
