Most people are using cloud computing through their iPhones and PDAs even if they have not thought about it. However, some property companies are taking strategic steps to use it effectively.
This paper has case studies from Broadgate Estates, CBRE and Hammerson amongst others and presents a balanced discussion of the benefits and pitfalls of putting your computing in the Cloud.
Cloud computing appears to benefit small companies more than large ones with their investments in legacy applications – however, will smaller companies have the discipline to use the right combination of applications and manage their data in the right jurisdictions?
We are beyond the point of discussing “whether” this will happen – we should now be working out who will be able to take greatest advantage of these powerful new options.
I'd welcome feedback on the paper and more examples of where cloud computiing is being used effectively by real estate professionals.
