OSCRE is a 501.c.6 non-profit consortium developing and promoting standards for the interoperable exchange of real estate commerce and real property operations information. We operate workgroups and projects which bring subject-matter and IT experts together to address industry information interoperability issues that can benefit from faster, less costly and more accurate information flows. Our standards development and demonstration work addresses a wide range of topics including Commercial Brokerage, Investment Property Management, Commercial Appraisal, and Lease Abstracting/Administration. New groups are being formed around Investment Research and Reporting, Occupancy Cost metrics, FM operations. I am a graduate of Kansas State University, College of Architecture and Design, worked in Construction, Architecture, Facility Management Consulting and now open standards development and implementation in both Real Estate and Architecture/Engineering & Construction.

Alan, this may be a long way from interoperability, but it struck a chord with me....In working on this week's Randomings column in CREOpoint's Forum, I stumbled across this new creation from LEGO--Frank Lloyd Wright building sets. Just thought I would share, given your architectural interest. Best regards, Jim Searing, CREOpoint Managing Editor.

Mr. Goldstein - I'm very happy to find CREOpoint and look forward to interacting with the community. In the same way that IT streamlining offers huge efficiencies for the healthcare industry, the RE industry has an even greater opportunity to improve speed, accuracy, and quality of RE transactions through open information interoperability.

OSCRE is currently working on developing three new topics which should be of interest to CREOpoint members. Our process for addressing interoperability issues for the RE industry begins by asking those in the industry to self-identify pain points and participate in organizing a clear statement of the issue/s and potential solutions as well as identifying gaps where development is needed, and evaluating the nature and viability of various development options. Throughout the process, market input from subject matter experts, end users and technology providers is essential. I am hoping the CREOpoint community will see the opportunity to drive much needed and highly beneficial improvements in the RE industry by participating in the group discussions, establishing requirements and evaluating the relative value of suggested projects if delivered to the market.

The currently active areas of new interest are:
1. Investment Research and Reporting - Addressing the need for greater interoperability between management systems for investment properties, portfolio management and analytics applications, portfolio appraisal applications, indexing organizations, third-party investors and investment advisors.
2. Green Leasing - OSCRE has published an open standard for exchanging whole-lease abstracts; which is being implemented by end-user organizations and software developers. Now, we are asking for those having Green Lease templates or are involved in Green Lease guidance or training activities to tell us what extensions are required to prepare the standard to support Green-type lease exchanges.
3. Site Selection - Addressing the need for greater interoperability in the entire Site Selection ecology. Many sources and consumers of information, using many manual, semi-automated and proprietary software solutions exchange information during the site selection process. This project seeks to map the lifecycle processes associated with site selection in a way that is suitable for exchange standards development, establish a gap analysis for Site Selection interoperability, and then begin to work incrementally on developing open interoperability solutions.

In the next few days I'll be joining existing groups, reviewing the dialogue, asking questions and contributing what I can to the discussions, and offering the opportunity for individuals in the community to shape industry standards. Your help in providing the information in usable form to the appropriate groups and individuals is greatly appreciated.

Thank you again for creating the community of interest. I am honored to be able to contribute in any way I can. -- Alan --
