Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International
Lisa M. Prats, CAE, is vice president of communications, marketing and meetings for the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International. Ms. Prats directs a staff of 7 who manage the association’s communications, publishing, public relations, Web site, marketing, annual conference and trade show and other meetings and conferences. BOMA International is an international federation of more than 100 local associations and affiliated organizations representing 18,000-plus members who own or manage more than 9 billion square feet of commercial properties. BOMA International is headquartered in Washington, D.C., with a staff of 35 and an annual budget of $8.5 million.
Ms. Prats previously served as vice president of communications and membership at BOMA International from 1995 to 2001. Prior to rejoining BOMA International in July 2005, Ms. Prats was the director of the communications division for APICS The Association for Operations Management, a professional society headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, with 60,000 members and an annual budget of $27 million. Ms. Prats directed the overall communications strategy for APICS including marketing, public relations, market research, media relations and the Web site, as well as professional publications, promotional literature, advertising and direct mail programs. She also led the rebranding strategy of the professional society, including the launch of a new name, logo and market positioning.
Ms. Prats holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in radio, television and film from the University of Maryland. She is a member of the American Society of Association Executives. She earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives in 1996. Ms. Prats was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2000 from FIABCI-USA, the International Real Estate Federation. She is the first association executive to receive this prestigious award.
