In contrast, most Asian economies are believed to be supported by more robust fundamentals and stronger reserves and therefore more capable to weather the financial meltdown after painful lessons learnt from the 1997 crisis. Growth in the Emerging Asia region is projected to moderate to 7.7% in 2008 and 7.1% in 2009, from 9.3% last year.
