CREOpoint

Create buzz and develop your relationships

I would like to make the CREOPoint community aware of one of the most generous offers that I have ever witness in my professional career from the President & CEO of Argus Software, Mark Kingston!

For those of you who aren't aware, Mark has been on a major campaign to reach out to the commercial real estate community and offer ARGUS software at NO COST to professionals in need within our industry. His efforts are unmatched and I would like to personally thank him as I was one of the lucky people he selected.

I would encourage CREOPoint members to check out "ARGUS Commercial Real Estate Network” on LinkedIn and read some of the comments and responses. Mark is trying to engage all of us in the commercial real estate industry to help each other through these very challenging times. His only request is that we help spread the word and offer our services to each other in any way possible. I've taken the liberty to share one of Marks recent posts:

At 48, 6'3" tall and 275lbs, tears do not come easy to a man that has experienced so many tough lessons in life. But as I read these emails late into the evening, I found tears rolling down.
Hundreds have responded to our outreach yesterday...It is truly humbling to read the emails...

The tears did not come from reading stories of woe is me. The tears came from reading story after story of courage, optimism, hope and endurance.

The mother who has lost her job, just lost her house. Does not know where she is gong to live yet, nor what lies in the future for her and her son. Yet she is determined to charge ahead and find a way to emerge. She was not seeking pity. She was appreciative of an opportunity to grow.

The father that wrote me last night, lost his job, lost his house, children living with the grandparents, wife working in one city, him trying to find jobs in another. Out of cash. His family and life decimated. His only thought...doing whatever he can to bring his family back together. I processed his enrollment into the ARGUS Training and Software bundle before I left the office last night.Later when I got home, he had sent me a short note of thanks telling me that this is the best fathers day he has ever had. I have been so immersed in this effort that I forgot it was fathers day weekend. Again, tears rolling down the cheeks.

What is also remarkable is that almost all of the people responding to the offer do not want it for free. They are responding with a commitment to pay what they can when they can. One person had only $300 left in there account and offered $200 now and the rest as he gets work. Of course, our reply was to keep the $200, pay something when you can afford it without putting yourself under more stress.

Nobody reading this should think that I am some oversensitive, whimpy man that cries like a baby over this and that. People accuse me of many things, but sensitivity is way down on the list of accusations. But to read story after story of people that even under the worst of circumstances continue to maintain their dignity. They forge ahead rendering even the hardest of hearts to a soft putty.

I am truly humbled to be able to bring light into a few lives today. It is rewarding to know you can make a difference.

Along the lines of making a difference, I had challenged others that have the capacity to make a difference to step up. Again, I have been humbled by the positive response. Several have sent emails with offers to let the group that is training to plug into some of their projects to gain referenceable experience. Some have sent emails informing me of jobs that they have open and will make available to this group. I recieved an email from one company suggesting that if we could make our training and software available they would be able to hire 2-3 more people immediately. Of course the answer is yes.

This week, I sat with 15 university professors going through the ARGUS trainng and certification testing with them side by side. Thursday I asked this group if they would consider making themselves available to mentor the people responding to our offer. Without exception, all said yes. We will now organise an effective way to start this mentorship program. Again, what a great demonstration of generousity. My question to the group, are there any others willing to make themselves available as mentors to this developing group of professionals?

I share this with the group not to draw attention to me or what our company is doing. My purpose is to set an example for you and continue to challenge all of you to break convention. As a group, we can with a modest effort, change the outcome for a lot of people. How much more if several hundred of you step it up as well? Yes it is taking time away from some other things that I would like to be doing today. I still had time to take my wife and kids to see the new movie "Proposal" before coming into the office to continue this effort. Washing the cars can wait. I have DVR and can watch my favorite show later.

Make a difference. Choose to be different. Let others be wall flowers
